Celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day
Last week, Allura Partners celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation at the Sydney Opera House.
Yolnu are Indigenous Australian people with country that ranges across 97,000 square kilometres. They are considered one of the largest Indigenous groups in Australia. Their language comprises of 12 sub-language groups and English is usually a 2nd, 3rd or 4th language for most Yolnu children.
We had a such a wonderful and insightful morning with the kids from Nhulunbuy Primary School. They travelled over 3000kms from the North East of Arnhem Land to launch the book that they wrote with Ann James & Ann Haddon “I Saw, We Saw”.
Thank you for sharing this with us and teaching us a few words in your language!
