Elizabeth Ocampo's journey into executive search was far from planned, but it turned out to be the perfect fit. Fresh out of university in the U.S., Elizabeth initially considered a career in hospitality, following her studies in business. But a chance opportunity introduced her to the world of executive search, and she quickly discovered a role that combined her passion for connecting with people with her service-oriented background.
"I had never thought about executive search as a career before, but I found it really aligned with what I enjoy, being the conduit between candidates and clients, and helping connect the dots between the two," Elizabeth explains.
Her career path has spanned multiple firms and sectors. Starting in research at Derwent, moving to recruitment at Orchard Talent Group, then on to a technology-focused firm, and later joining William Hall as their first employee, Elizabeth has developed a broad perspective across industries and roles.
"That wide experience has been formative," she says. "It helps me think beyond square-peg-square-hole candidates, considering how skills from one industry or function might translate into another. It keeps the search funnel open and encourages creativity in identifying top talent."
She has now joined Allura Partners as Engagement Manager, drawn by their strong reputation, rigorous methodology and focus on private equity. "Allura Partners brings a fast-paced, high-quality approach to executive search," she notes. "Their focus on private equity, and their process that balances structure with flexibility, really resonated with me."
Elizabeth emphasises the importance of communication with clients and active listening.
"Roles can change mid-search, and clients' needs can evolve quickly. Keeping the research funnel broad and agile ensures we can adapt, while still maintaining quality," she says.
She also emphasises the importance of culture fit, not just on paper, but in practice. "Meeting candidates in person whenever possible helps understand personality and fit. Gut instinct matters, but it's balanced with presenting a variety of options to clients."
Diversity is another critical consideration. Elizabeth has seen the impact of bringing in candidates from non-traditional backgrounds or underrepresented groups. "It's about thinking broadly, gender, industry experience, cultural background, and understanding where there's room to stretch or back a step-up candidate."
Elizabeth's approach has evolved alongside emerging technology. AI has streamlined the research process, accelerated reporting and allowed more time to focus on candidate assessment. Platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter and Pitchbook, alongside traditional networking and sourcing, enable her to uncover talent that may not be an obvious fit. "AI helps us map the market faster and brainstorm unexpected adjacencies," she says. "It frees up time for the deeper assessment work, which is ultimately where the value lies."
Elizabeth expects executive search to continue embracing data-driven insights, speed and diversity over the next three to five years. For private equity clients, pace and adaptability remain key, alongside intelligence and a track record of success.
"Private Equity firms often value smart, capable individuals even if their industry background isn't exact," she explains. "It's about assessing potential, agility, and cultural alignment."
At Allura Partners, Elizabeth is focused on Operations, including COO and GM roles, with some exposure to CEO-level searches. She's excited to deepen her network, continue placing senior talent and contribute to building long-term value for clients.
"I enjoy bringing out-of-the-box candidates to the table and thinking about long-term impact," she says. "It's about adding value, not just filling a role."
Elizabeth is particularly passionate about sustainability in leadership, not just environmentally but in building robust, future-ready organisations. "Executive search isn't just about placing someone, it's about shaping leadership that drives long-term success," she concludes.
